It was around noon when we arrived, which means many of the shops were closed for lunch, and the streets were super trafficy. Well, super for here anyway. We actually had to look both ways before crossing.
Kralendijk is dressed in its xmas finest, which somewhat pales against the already bright colours. Most of the decorations are what you would find in an American mall, if it was dressed up to go to an 80s-themed xmas party.
The shops contain a wealth of creepy Santa Clauseseses, and the occasional crèche.
When you can't find a creepy Santa, adding a hat to anything makes it just as festive.
This lady appears to be getting eaten by a Christmas tree.
You can also buy your own xmas finery here. Many of the shops seem to specialise in sequined resort wear. Even the billboard across the street is shocked at this look.
Kralendijk is right on the sea. The whole downtown area is about the same size as the block on which i live. The cruise ships dock smack in the middle of downtown, so there are a lot of shops peddeling keychains and snowglobes and the like.
You can also find some fancy painted murals, though few which rival the ones in Esmeralda. I am relatively sure this mermaid was retouched just to add an ass.
There are also some open air bars here, facing the sea.
And even a biker bar, if thats your jam.
