The Might of the Empire

So Star Wars opens in 2 days in the states, but somehow the tiny new theatre here managed to show it starting last night, probably because the island is technically a municipality of Holland and the european premiere is earlier.  I wont post any spoilers because im seeing it before most of my friends, but nanny-nanny-foo-foo, i saw it first!!

Empire Theatre is brand new here, so we werent sure what to expect. All we knew is that they serve Thai food, and had Star Wars, and really what more does one need to know than that. Thai fighter jokes are the low hanging fruit here.

We got there early, because we knew last nights show was likely to sell out. It is an open air theatre, so the show cant start until dark, that means two showings a night is pushing things.

My mother opted not to go, so it was just my dad and I. We showed up about an hour and a half before the show started so we could get dinner. The chef/owner's wife was overjoyed that we wanted our burgers spicy. She told us too many people come in and ask for not spicy, and she wants to tell them no. She said last nights show was very crowded, so we came on the right night. She also said she takes care of the people who come early, so if we come back make sure to do that. She was basically a human chibi, flitting around and talking with us, it was really fun.

The burgers were huge, and more meat than I could have gotten for $9 at home.

The theatre interior is basically a big gravel lot with a screen and a wall around it, and tiny little building from which they serve food. Once you buy your ticket, you grab a chair and put it where you want it.

There were maybe 20 other people there. We heard Dutch, Spanish, English, and Italian while we were there. Between the heat, wind, and cultural melange, it was a lot like being in the Mos Eisley cantina, without all the scum and villany.

The movie was everything I look for in Star Wars, and less lens flare than expected. No spoilers!
